Modern Songs with an 80s Vibe

When singer-songwriter Adele came on the scene, everyone loved how different yet familiar she sounded. That's because her music, while unique, also possessed a sound that reflected similar beats and vocal stylings to the 1960s. Since then, the singer has created even more music with homages to yesteryear, including her song, "Under the Bridge," which sounds more like it belongs to the 1980s than today's music.

I recently blogged about cutting edge research into stabilizing fusion plasmas being carried out the U.S. Department of Energy Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory. It turns out that another project at the PPPL is making news.

Nuclear Reactors 651 - Framatome Is Developing Chromium-Clad Enhanced Accident Fault Tolerant Nuclear Fuel Under U.S. DoE grant

Framatome is a French company that manufactures nuclear reactors and nuclear reactor fuel. It was created in 2018 when Areva, another French company, went bankrupt. Seventy five percent is owned by EDF, the French utility company. Twenty percent is owned by Mitsubishi Heavy Industry, a Japanese company, and five percent is owned by Assystem, an international engineering services firm.

Nuclear Reactors 650 - The Consortium for Advanced Simulation of Light Water Reactors Is Developing The Virtual Environment for Reactor Applications

Most of the nuclear power reactors in the U.S. were built in the 1970s and 1980s. They were licensed for forty years and many have reached that age or will reach it soon. Some operators have applied for permits to operate their reactors for an additional twenty years and most of these applications have been granted. Materials used to build nuclear reactors age and deteriorate over time.

Clone Your Pets (Into Slippers)!

You've seen people stuff their deceased pets, put their likeness on a stuffed animal or t-shirt or even use their ashes to build bird baths. (No? You need to look that stuff up.) Now you can have slipper clones made of your pets to keep forever! The process doesn't come cheaply (it's almost $200!) but if you really want a super soft, comfy clone of your pet to wear on your feet forevermore, you'll have to check them out at Cuddle Clones (where you can also sign up for a 10% discount).

Ocasio-Cortez's Tax Plan is Not New

It's no surprise around here that I pretty much hero worship Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and when she does something as simple as wear red lipstick to symbolize change I am stoked. She's doing some major work in Washington to help rectify the many problems we have, however, and one of them is tax reform. Ocasio-Cortez is an expert in economics, with a degree in economics and international relations, and her idea to reinstate a 70% tax on the wealthiest Americans isn't even new.
